The illustrious Western Sydney Wanderers were once the AFC Champions League winners, but their record in recent years has not been satisfactory. Last season, Western Sydney ranked 4th in the Australian Premier League regular season, but in the qualifying round for the semi-finals, Western Sydney lost 1-2 to city rivals Sydney FC and failed to enter the quarter-finals.

Western Sydney's current head coach is 48-year-old local coach Mark Rudan, who began his AFL coaching career in 2018, bouncing around Wellington Phoenix and Western Union, but leading the team with relatively average results, and then began working for Western Sydney at the beginning of 2022, leading the team to make it to the finals again after a five-year absence from the playoffs, which is considered to be a small highlight in his career.

In the summer transfer window, Western Sydney recruited and brought in a number of strong players: Swedish striker Andonsson was signed from Harsh Justice, and former Melbourne Victory midfielder Brillante, former Perth Glory left back Krispy Kreisby, and former Western Union right winger Pietrangelos were brought in on free transfers from within the Australian Premier League. The team's attacking prowess was reintegrated and the team opened the season with a strong 6-1 win in their first official match of the season, the first round of the FA Cup against Western Australia Premier League side Florettes.

Adelaide United is a veteran Australian Premier League team with a history of one Australian Premier League title and three Australian FA Cup titles. In recent years, Adelaide United has maintained its strong identity as an AFL powerhouse, having reached the AFL quarterfinals for three consecutive seasons, but unfortunately has been unable to break through the nightmare of the semifinals. Head Coach Calvert has been with Adelaide United since the start of his coaching career, stepping up as assistant coach in the summer of 2020, and the results of his work in recent seasons are clear to see.

Adelaide United have kept their roster stable this summer, with no reinforcements and no key players lost. The centerpiece of Adelaide United's roster is undoubtedly Australia's hottest winger Craig Goodwin, 31, who started out at Melbourne City and made his name at Adelaide United. After years of traveling to Europe and West Asia, Goodwin returned to Adelaide United in the summer of 2022 and has quickly become an Adelaide fan favorite, making a total of 162 appearances for Adelaide United, scoring 57 goals and contributing 34 assists. He has made 162 appearances for Adelaide United, scoring 57 goals and contributing 34 assists. In the first round of this season's FA Cup against Northcote, it was Goodwin's blistering strike in the opening six minutes that helped Adelaide score their first goal of the new season, and eventually got through 2-0, which was also a good start to the new season.

Looking at the history of Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United, Western Sydney has 4 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses in the last 10 encounters, but 4 out of the last 6 matches the two sides have shaken hands, proving that the two teams have similar strengths. Western Sydney's reinforcements in the summer window are quite targeted, vowing to make a name for themselves in the new season, and I'm afraid that Goodwin will not be able to redeem Adelaide United even if he tries his best in this match.
